Advertising Irony

Lunch-break is email time and while skimming through them today, I noticed one in particular from Kevin Lam of FAN who’d apparently caught a glimpse of adult ads being served by Adbrite.

Nothing wrong with that - in it’s place - I mean there has to be room for everyone, but as far as I understand it, these ads were being served by Adbrite to a family friendly site. I guess the site owner forgot to specify non-acceptable ads?

The point is there does seem to be a contradicting issue in Adbrite’s terms of service for publishers. As Kevin says - if publishers are not permitted to show adult ads on their site in order to become a member, but Adbrite take it upon themselves to serve this type of ad anyway irregardless - then Adbrite is surely in breach of contract?

I don’t do well with ads that are not presented well and as such have no Adbrite ads just a referral button, but it should be easy enough with today’s technology to shut off non-relevant ads being displayed on your site - n’est-ce pas.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t know AdBrite was ever even in the porn business. Why? Because if you look at their Publisher Acceptable Use Policy, you will see that Publishers are not allowed to display ads on their site …… “Any pornographic, adult, or mature content including animation.”

I’m not quite seeing how that makes sense. It’s like saying, you’ll be banned for having pornographic/adult content on your site but since you don’t, I’ll put those pornographic and adult content there for you even if you didn’t opted in for it. Yeah, you’re welcome.

» A Little AdBrite Irony

For sure with all the adult spam that comes to our email and via Wordpress whether we want it or not - do we really need to have it on our family friendly websites and blogs too? I don’t think so - what do you think?
