Way back when working in the offline world, there seemed to be much more time. Now pensioned and getting into the social marketing, networking and media thing or at least giving it a shot - I seem to have no time.

The credit for these thoughts and the reason for this short post, goes entirely to Katherine Berry at Pajamas Media. She hit the nail right, smack on the head in her post, expressing what I’m sure a lot of us are thinking. Here’s a short excerpt of Katherine’s post ….

Even as I sit there trying to wrack my brain for something positive to say about the IM sender’s blog entry, I glance at Twitter and see that she’s announced to the world that she’s about to take a shower. Phew! I dash off a quick “LOL. Nice!” in the IM screen before closing it and launching my email client.

So I wade through the FriendFeed and my direct messages on Twitter. I buzz through my email and see that a good portion of the very same folks whose updates I’d just spent the past hour reading have also sent me email, so I dash off brief replies where appropriate. Just as I’m about to congratulate myself for having waded through all of that, another IM pops up from the same sender as earlier: “Did u see that vid I just blogged?” Crap. When do I get to spend my day on me?

Twitter Tweets - sounds just like the cat Sylvester and Tweety. Anyway, it’s taken me ages to convince myself that I really needed to give Twitter a go as I didn’t really see any relevance in me knowing or anyone sharing what they - all across the other side of the globe was doing i.e. walking their ferret or pet mouse or just getting on or off their plane from or to wherever. Just didn’t get it - but the penny is beginning to drop ever so slowly.

So, as I’ve just started using Twitter, I’ve been looking for a way to use Skype instead of GTalk, not that there’s anything wrong with GTalk, but I was surprised that Skype wasn’t an option. And low and behold - PacificIT has already explained how to Twitter using Skype. How neat is that!

How to Twitter from Skype

Here’s a little secret no one seems to know about (or at least before this post!). There is a Skype robot which will post to your Twitter account. Here are the simple instructions:

  1. Add twitter4skype as a contact.
  2. Type the following as a single chat message to twitter4skype:
    /account (shift+return)
    yourtwitteraccountname (shift+return)
    yourtwitteraccountpassword (shift+return)
  3. The system should return: twitter4skype Registration complete!
  4. The next time you write a chat message to twitter4skype, the entry will appear on your account and you’ll receive your friends’ twitters in Skype.
