Visit the original article at http://www.learnhowtodothings.com/wordpress-can-be-easy-to-use-honest/.

Wordpress Step by Step Setup is a simple yet powerful program that has been created for users of all levels and experience by providing you with the information and tools you need to avoid common problems that occur during the setup process of a Wordpress Blog. Wordpress Step by Step Setup also allows you the ability to adapt the steps and information provided depending on what you needs are.

One of the most exciting benefits of the Wordpress Step by Step Setup program, is that it is very easy to use and comprehend, with step by step instructions. No technical jargon here, we have written this so even the newest of Internet marketers can follow the process. Now that doesn’t leave out you more experienced marketers, there is plenty of info you can learn from the program as well.

The program allows you to not only prioritize each step (low, medium or high), but each step is editable. Lets say you are working on a step and want to add in a note to yourself, that’s not a problem, just click on the “Edit Task” button at the top of the program and add whatever you like. Another great option is the “Add a Task” and this will allow you to add in your own specific task without editing the ones that are already available.

Now, everyone works differently due to personal preferences. For those individuals who prefer to work from paper then you will enjoy the “Print” option. This will allow you to print off any or all the steps you wish so you can follow the steps from paper instead of the computer.

For many people who do Internet marketing their office is in their home and that means there can be many interruptions. If you are like so many people I have spoken with, one of the main obstacles is staying focused and not losing track of where you were. The Wordpress Step by Step Setup program has not one, but two great features that will keep you on task. One is you have the ability to check off and prioritize your tasks, even “hiding” the ones you have done. The second gives you the ability to schedule a “pop up” that lets you know what step you are currently working on.

Another powerful benefit of Wordpress Step by Step Setup is the ability to transfer your current work to an external source such as a usb/jump or thumb drive or even a external hard drive. This allows you to take it with you wherever you go and as long as you have access to a computer you can continue you work no matter where you go.

Powerful, comprehensive and easy to follow Wordpress Step by Step Setup has all the right information you need to get you started setting up your Wordpress Blog from getting a domain, installing Wordpress, setting up FTP and a list of the best plugins and widgets available.

Visit the original article at http://www.learnhowtodothings.com/upgrading-wp-taking-the-plunge/.

Finally I took the plunge and upgraded WordPress. I’ve heard so many different things - negative and positive, but decided it’s now or never. Upgrading went well - largely due to Wordpress Automatic Upgrade plugin courtesy of Techie Buzz, upgrading WP is a cinch using this plugin and takes no more than a few minutes, which includes dbase backups, deactivating plugins and WP upgrade.

So far so good. Upgrade done - check. Now it’s time to reactivate plugins, which you have to do one by one. Sad to say that 60% of them were no longer compatible with the newly installed WP version - including the theme I was using that looked a real mess after the upgrade. So what should have been a 15 minute job turned into a really long night behind the computer. But OK - it’s all experience at least that’s what I was saying to myself to keep calm.

At times like these you really don’t want your visitors to see you’re messing about with the site, so it’s good to be able to put the blog on standby and out of sight. Maintenance Mode is a great plugin to take care of this.

As it turns out I needn’t have worried about updating all the plugins - enter Single Click WordPress Plugin Updater. Where have you been all my WP life! Needless to say this little plugin beauty saved me from burning unnecessary midnight oil.

If you’ve already upgraded - you’ll know that the admin back office interface doesn’t fill the screen, well only about half of the screen. So already 15 minutes into the upgrade I was kicking myself for upgrading. This interface was not what I wanted to be greeted with at each login - all that white space glaring back at me and not being used for anything. It didn’t take me long to find Remove Max Width which is just the plugin you need to solve this problem.

Next up was Popularity Contest that I use on all my WP blogs to help me gauge interest on my content. Woe is me this plugin turned out to be non compatible with the latest version of WP. Luckily a smart techie has patched this plugin so it works just great with the new version of WP.

On to the admin back-office menus in the upgraded version of WordPress. Not very attractive or organized well - all over the place. Lighter Menu’s solved this problem very nicely and reorganized everything making each menu easy to find and much easier on the eye too.

I’ve always found it a little annoying after logging in, making changes, checking the front-end of the site and then having to type in …wp-admin in the status bar or clicking back each time. WordPress Admin Bar takes care of this very nicely as it creates an admin bar at the top of your site for logged in users, so you have quick access back to the admin area.

I often look for handy plugins to make my blogging life easier. PluginInstaller saves a lot of time as it eliminates the need to download a plugin archive, upload it to your FTP server and unpack it manually. With PlugInstaller, you can easily enter a plugin URL (e.g. directly from a plugin repository website - for example at WordPress, where you’ll find many plugins to make your blogging life easier.

On other sites we use Openads for serving various ads - I think it’s called OpenX these days, but it’s big for our use, which is basically ad rotation, so I was pleased to find Ad-Minister. This is a plugin that adds a user friendly ads management system, which supports ad-rotation, scheduling and is fully widget compatible.

There appears to be mixed feelings about upgrading to the new version of WordPress. What I thought was going to be an ordeal turned into a positive experience and I wont have any worries about upgrading next time either. Which brings me to the last plugin I’ll mention today and that is - the WordPress Backup plugin that creates backups of your core WordPress tables as well as other tables of your choice in the same database. Invaluable plugin - that can get you out of a very tight spot.

Copyright © 2008 Starbrite. Visit the original article at http://www.learnhowtodothings.com/turn-articles-into-masterpieces/.

It’s often said that a picture says a thousand words, but it’s often a hassle to have the time to take photo’s yourself, or to find a relevant photo to use in your blog post. There are tons of stock photo’s to choose from and download, but we rather liked the idea of being able to show off some of the great photo’s from Flickr that has one of the world’s largest online collections of photos that people have shared and may be used by third parties as long as they are in compliance with the photographers chosen Creative Commons license.

The Photo Dropper Plugin makes the process of finding suitable photo’s and inserting them into blog posts a breeze with the added advantage taking care of the Creative Commons license attribution automatically - with photographer credits clearly shown just underneath the photo.

Skelliewag wrote an in depth post (Nov 2007) about Flickr and Creative Commons licenses and how they apply to blogs. It’s an in depth explanation and one worth while reading.

Photo Dropper makes it easy to turn an ordinary text article into an easy on the eye, pleasurable reading experience and help the photographer get some well deserved recognition.

The Photo Dropper WordPress plugin is easy to use and integrates quickly into the ‘write post’ section after installation. Set your preferences and parameters in the ‘Options’ menu and all that’s left to do is write your post and choose your keyword.

To choose a Flickr photo to your liking - type in a keyword in the ‘browse photos’ menu, and in a few seconds you’ll be presented with flickr photo’s that fit the category/keyword used and within the creative commons license applicable, which saves a lot of hassle.

We haven’t quite found the right way to move the picture and credits around - so for ease and quickness we make a table and place everything in that so we can wrap text around without problems and making a mess of things.

To work around this, we place the cursor/mouse inside the table so that when we’ve found the photo of choice, we just click on either S M or L (small, medium, large) and everything as if by magic is placed nicely into the pre-formatted table including Creative Commons license and photographer credits.

We’re not techies, so could be that it’s us not understanding how to configure the photo, but we wanted to be able to move the photo and credits together at the same time, which as far as we can see can’t be done, so doing a table is a quick work-around solution.

Photo Dropper is a nice plugin and one worth taking a closer look at.
